I remember a time I would sit in my room after school and play the radio before my parents got home. It was a time that I could escape, dream and be myself fully. You see, I use to be afraid, and even ashamed at times, to own who I was. One particular day I remember playing Songs in A Minor by Alicia Keys. As she sang “I know why the caged bird sings. Only joy comes from song. She’s so rare and beautiful to others. Why not just set her free?”, I cried and related to the thoughts of wanting to be free; wanting to be me.
